What is the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica?

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is pocketoption review an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Formally organized as the Spanish National Honor Society in 1953, the name was changed in 1959. At present there are over 1,700 national and international chapters.

The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic and Portuguese studies.

All secondary schools of recognized standing are eligible for membership. Chapter sponsors must be active members of the AATSP. Annual membership is now $60.00 for continuing members. First time members should visit the AATSP web site for special prices at www.aatsp.org.

Any secondary school student who has maintained an honor average in opinion binary.com the study of Spanish or Portuguese for a minimum of three semesters and is in the 10th grade or higher is eligible. Definition of "honor grade" is left to the discretion of the individual sponsor but it should be remembered that the SHH is an honor society for those students of high academic achievement.

Benefits

· At the national level, the College Board has entered the SHH scholarship program on its database.
· Fifty-two Joseph Adams Senior Scholarships worth $64,000 will be given in 2004-2005.
· There are twenty expense paid travel awards to Spain in 2005 for junior members.
· An SHH Manual is sent to each new chapter
· The chapter journal, ¡Albricias! is published quarterly.
· Cash awards are given to members whose work is published in ¡Albricias!, $50 for front cover art work, $35 for poetry and prose selections. More cash awards binance wallet and recognition are given to those whose work is chosen as Best of ¡Albricias!.
· Prizes of $50, $75, and $100 are awarded for short and long term activities entered in the Activity of the Year Contest.
· Chapter of the Year receives $200.00 and a certificate, or $150.00 and a plaque.
· Official Sociedad items include keys, pins, mugs, tassels and cords in red and gold.
· Official Sociedad wearables with the Sociedad logo include t-shirts, sweats, and caps.
· The John Temple State Director of the Year receives an expense free trip to the AATSP Annual Meeting in New York in the summer of 2005.
· The Mario Fierros Award for Excellence is given to the most outstanding chapter sponsor. A plaque and a free trip to the AATSP annual conference in New York in the summer of 2005 are awarded.
